We were very hesitant when Pat came to us and asked if he could take drum lessons. We knew absolutely nothing about drums, except they were expensive! Added to that we were concerned about how serious he was. We already had his twin brother taking piano lessons and he was doing well. But drums? We decided to go ahead with it.
We found Joe and voiced our concerns, he suggested that we try a few lessons and go from there. We entrusted our son to Joe, and there is no price tag on the investment we have applied to these lessons with Joe. His teaching is encouraging, motivating, and inspiring. His sense of humor and joyfulness in his passion for teaching and coaching will resonate in my son for a life time.

Well I found out about Joe from his flyer one day. I was starting my second month of lessons with another guy. I was learning next-to-nothing in his class. I thought I might try Joe, so my mom called him up and we went for a lesson. I learned more in that one lesson than I had in a month with the other man. I quit the other lessons and stayed with Joe. Every week I go I learn some thing new. I am playing better than I thought I ever could. Joe is an amazing teacher. Every week I learn a new rhythm on the drum set. I love it! I like how Joe always encourages me to do my best. I love his distinct sense of humor too. I would recommend Joe to anyone who loves drums and wants a good teacher.
Mom’s view-point:
Jared’s previous drum teacher was a young hip guy and although I did not know it at the time – was not teaching Jared to his full potential. There were also very rigid rules working through a music store and that was a bit challenging – thankfully we received a flyer from Joe a mature hip guy. I went on-line and checked out his web site. Right away I noticed a young man I recognized from church. He had been playing the drums with the worship band and was really good – I talked with his Mom to get the scoop on Joe and he came with the highest recommendation. From day one I was thrilled with Joe and his teaching techniques. Jared was so excited to tell me all about his lesson and how much he learned. That same enthusiasm continues each week – and it has been remarkable to see how much Jared has progressed in the short time he has been with Joe. Then there is Joe’s kindness and willingness to go the extra mile – no rigid rules with Joe. He was extremely patient and instrumental in helping us determine what drum set to purchase and has offered to come and help us set it up – again a testimony to Joe’s commitment to his students and his desire to see them succeed. I highly recommend Joe if you are looking for a teacher who will guide your child in the fundamentals of drums as well as making each lesson a fun and unique experience. |

The most important element when seeking to master anything is having the right teacher. There are plenty of bad ones and a bad one will leave you in worse shape than a beginner because a bad one sends you off in the wrong direction where you learn bad habits that you eventually need to unlearn and ultimately work much harder to get back only to the beginning and start over.
Joe Isaacs is a great teacher.
I’ve watched him teach my son Wesley and guide his experience with the drums. Not only is Joe’s teaching deeply rooted in a true master’s knowledge of music, he understands how to become a drummer. He can see the steps each student needs to grow. He sees every element of technique and hears every element of rhythm. He works as hard for the students as the students do for themselves.
I have sat in the room during the classes and watched as Joe observed every aspect of a performance. He provides the most careful feedback, which gives Wes the ability to perfect the current exercise, and that in turn provides a building block to achieve the next skill level and the next. Every element of the class is geared toward providing students their own reservoir of knowledge about the drums. It is the kind of understanding that will last throughout an entire lifetime. He sees everything about the student’s approach and adds guidance and correction in a positive and wholly constructive way that is illuminated by his own love of the drums and true enjoyment of his students.
If you find a good teacher, then what you gain is something that enriches every aspect of your life far beyond the drums or music.
A good teacher demonstrates for his students something about the right approach to our path in life.
Wesley has learned good technique but he has also learned the route to becoming a better drummer is a universal way too becoming good at anything. If you want to be a better drummer and even a better person, learn from Joe.

Joe is a dedicated teacher who, in a positive manner, holds his students accountable for their performance. All the while creating a fun environment with his "Distinct" sense of humor!
I studied with Joe when I was 15 years old. I have recently wanted to study again but was unable to find a teacher I felt connected with. As fate would have it, I found Joe through another teacher and started lessons again.
I have a sincere respect for Joe as a teacher, musician and for "Who" he is as a person.
I am now in my late 20's and am having a great time reconnecting with my drums. |

When my five-year-old son Jack became interested in drums I thought, “This will pass.” Well it did not. He would watch TV music shows and just get so excited when he saw the drummer playing. He would tell everyone he met he was going to be a drummer. So, I had no choice but to go out and look for a teacher. I thought it would be an easy task. But, all the teachers I spoke to said things like… he wouldn’t understand the lessons…he was too young…come back in a few years. Then I found Joe. His first question was, “Can he count to four?” "Of course," I said. Joe took Jack the very next week and started with drum lessons. Jack became a sponge. He soaked everything up. Within a year he was actually playing along with music. He was reading the drum music. I am proud to say Jack has been in the school band since 3rd grade and is a principle drummer. I can’t thank Joe enough. |

Taking steps forward to learn more is very difficult, but with Joe Isaacs you don’t feel that way. I have learned how to stop and break simple things down to where they make sense. If you want to find out about yourself, study with Joe. His approach is non-intimidating and highly personable. Lessons with Joe are full of learning and a lot of fun; definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Thanks Joe!

I have studied with a couple of teachers through the years. I can say Joe Isaacs was one of the best I had. His approach to teaching is from the bottom up. He gave me a solid foundation to build from. What a difference that makes.

I initially came to Joe for drum lessons after taking many years away from music. It has been a rewarding experience for me. Joe knows when to slow things down to your pace and when to challenge you. You'll get the feeling he measures his success as a teacher by your progress as a student. If you don't get something the first time, he'll find another way to present it to you. He doesn't just throw something at you and say "do it this way". He always tells you why. Joe's teaching environment contains all the necessary equipment and materials. Bring your sticks and be ready to work. You'll be rewarded for it.

Joe has really helped me to widen my horizon to many different styles of music. Everything from rock to jazz, and latin to funk, he has really helped me to develop as a player. I credit Joe a lot with who I am becoming today both as a player and as a person. Thanks to Joe my set playing skills have noticeably increased, and I really enjoy practicing and going to lessons.
